The Ashington School Sport Partnership is situated in the south-east of Northumberland and came into operation in September 2001.

The Partnership covers Ashington High School Sports College and Coquet High School and their feeder first and middle schools and the new Northumberland Church of England Academy with its one secondary and associated primary campuses. At the present time the Partnership is staffed by a Partnership Development Manager, an Assistant Partnership Development Manager and 6 School Sport Co-ordinators.

In 2008 - 2009 pupils in the Partnership took part in an average of 123 minutes of curriculum PE with 55% participating in 3 hours of high quality PE and out-of-hours school sport. Both these figures are above the national average.

Another strength of the Partnerhsip is leadership and volunteering; 25% of pupils in the Partnership are actively involved in sports volunteering and leadership again above the national average.

The Partnerships work includes building school-club links, the development and deployment of coaches, developing competition and supporting students whatever their ability to take part in sport. Our ultimate aim is that every child should take part in 5 hours of sport each week.
